Thoughts on Writing My First Medium Post

Contrary to what you might think, this isn’t my first blog post.

A girl sits on the floor and works with her laptop on her lap.

It’s technically my sixth.

But I’m writing this post to share my experience in the hopes of encouraging you to write your own blog posts.

Honestly, it doesn’t have to be perfect. All that matters is that it comes from you.

We might not know where to start, or how to edit it so that it’s published perfectly.

But we should reframe how we think about it. If you have a great idea you’re thinking of sharing, you should go and share it.

You don't know how much your ideas could really help someone out there, and spark an idea or a conversation. Maybe you might not realize it right at this moment.

So I’d like to share my ideas more.

Here’s my experience with writing my first blog post.

It took longer than it needed to.

It took more time because I was actually more scared about starting to write than actually writing.

To be honest, writing isn’t really my strong suit, but of course everything takes practice. Medium as a platform has given me the opportunity to write more so I can improve (and I would love your feedback)!

I kept writing in circles because I thought it wasn’t perfect.

Writing, editing, rewriting, reediting…

Writing in Medium

I wrote within the platform.

I didn’t even have to write my post separately on Google Drive or on Microsoft Word. I found it quite useful.

Always add links to other resources and to what you’ve created as well.

The goal is to share ideas and resources. If there are any interesting links, information you’d like to share or even your own post, make sure to share it with your own blog post.

800–1000 words.

You can choose how long or short you want it to be, but ideally 800 words is a great place to start.

And that’s really all it is about. Starting.

Don’t overthink it.

I know I do.

But once you start and get the ball rolling, that’s when you can start to improve.

And who knows…Maybe you might like it.
